In fact it's over twenty years since the book was first published, but it hasn't been in print (in English, at least) since the British mass market paperback came out in 1993. No surprise then that even finding a tatty old reading copy will set you back at least twenty or thirty dollars - See this link to ABE!
I'm delighted therefore to announce that The Stress of Her Regard is to be reissued by Tachyon Publications, in a smart and affordable trade paperback edition later this year. This release follows on from Tachyon's excellent Strange Itineraries, their Powers short fiction collection which - not surprisingly - did well enough to be twice reprinted.

Their new edition of The Stress of Her Regard is scheduled to be available in August 2008 and will be priced at $14.95, ISBN 978-1-892391-79-7. The cover art is by Ann Monn. I'm told that this edition will also incorporate some minor Powers revisions to the text.

"Tim Powers and Charnel House are putting together a very special edition celebrating Charnel House's Twentieth Anniversary in 2008. We will be revisiting our old friends Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley for the occasion."

Powers add the following nugget of information to further wet our appetites...

"I've agreed to do a novella for Joe Stefko, to involve Shelley and probably Byron, and I'm to have it done by the end of the year. There's no title yet, and I don't have any idea what it'll be about -- probably it'll be in the same world as Stress of Her R, like a 'missing chapter.'"

More news on this as soon as I have it.

Whilst contributing to a thread about The Stress of Her Regard, Powers offered the following in comments in response to a post by another forum member:-

"... I'll be very curious to hear what you think of it -- I've got to re-read it myself, taking notes, since it'll be a bit relevant to the book I'm working on. Don't tell anybody, but this new one looks like being a sort of remote sequel to Stress of Her Regard -- same universe, anyway. Of course it may turn out not to be!"

Either way, it's a tantalising prospect for Powers fans!
